Does walking your dog feel like a chore?

You used to look forward to walks. Now you dread them. You leave the house with a knot in your stomach, scanning every corner for other dogs, cyclists, kids — anything that might set your dog off.

When you spot a trigger, your heart rate spikes before your dog even reacts. You shorten the lead, hold your breath, and brace for impact — the lunging, the barking, the pulling that leaves your arm aching and your confidence shattered.

You're not alone if you've experienced this:

Lunging and barking at other dogs on lead
Growling or snapping at strangers and visitors
Walks that leave you anxious before you even leave the house
Embarrassment in public — apologising to everyone you pass
Avoiding routes, parks, and social situations altogether
Tried multiple trainers. Nothing has stuck.
Feeling like you've somehow failed the dog who trusts you most

This is not your fault. And it's not your dog's fault either. Most reactive dogs aren't "bad dogs" — they're anxious dogs who've never been taught how to feel calm. The industry is flooded with conflicting advice, and most of it addresses the symptoms rather than the root cause.

A clear path to connection

Five sessions, spaced 1–2 weeks apart. A structured system that addresses the root cause — not just the symptoms.

Discovery Call

We identify what's actually driving your dog's reactivity — not just what it looks like on the surface. Every dog is different, and your plan will be built around your specific situation.

02
02

Foundation Building

We teach you and your dog the core engagement and calmness skills that everything else is built on. You'll learn how to communicate clearly, set boundaries, and build genuine trust.

03
03

Trigger Exposure

We gradually reintroduce triggers in controlled environments, at a pace your dog can handle. No flooding, no force — just clear, structured exposure that changes how your dog feels.

Real-World Application

We practice in the situations that actually matter to you — your street, your local park, your daily routine. Training that works in the real world, not just in a controlled setting.

Imagine a life without…

  • Dreading every walk before you leave the house
  • Scanning the horizon for triggers before your dog does
  • Apologising to strangers for your dog's behaviour
  • Feeling like a prisoner to your dog's reactivity

Other trainers vs Coastal Canine Connection

Most trainers focus on obedience commands. We focus on the state of mind. There's a fundamental difference — and it's why our clients see results that actually last.

Other Trainers

  • Focus on 'Sit', 'Stay', 'Heel' commands
  • Rely on constant treats or harsh corrections
  • Suppress the behaviour without changing the emotion
  • Results fade the moment the treats stop
  • One-size-fits-all approach
  • Leave you guessing between sessions

The Coastal Canine Way

Our Approach
  • Focus on calmness and neutrality first
  • Build a relationship based on respect, not bribery
  • Change how your dog feels about triggers
  • Results that last a lifetime — no treat dependency
  • Personalised plan built around your dog's specific triggers
  • Ongoing support and homework between every session

Who this program is — and isn't — for

We only work with clients and dogs we know we can genuinely help. This isn't for everyone — and that's intentional.

This is for you if…

  • Owners who are ready to take responsibility and be part of the process
  • People who want a calm, neutral dog — not just a robot that does tricks
  • Owners willing to change their own habits to help their dog
  • Those who want long-term results, not a quick fix that fades
  • Anyone whose dog struggles with other dogs, people, noises, or environments
  • People open to learning a new way of communicating with their dog

This is not for you if…

  • People looking for a 'magic wand' solution without putting in the work
  • Owners who want treats-only and aren't open to other tools
  • Those who aren't willing to enforce boundaries or structure
  • People who want to send their dog away to be 'fixed' without involvement
  • Owners who aren't ready to commit to daily practice between sessions

You don't need any of this

The Path to Connection program is designed to work within your real life — not some idealised version of it. Here's what you won't need to do or buy.

I know exactly how you're feeling. Trust me — I've been there.

Kobe is the dog who started my reactivity journey. I took him to a puppy class run by a trainer here on the coast — the structure was all wrong, and he was attacked during a session. From that day forward, everything changed. The dog I knew became anxious, reactive, and stressful to walk.

I did what most owners do — I hired trainers. One relied entirely on treats. Another used harsh corrections. Neither worked. I felt stuck, frustrated, and like I'd somehow failed the dog who trusted me most.

So I decided to figure it out myself. I enrolled in online courses, watched hundreds of hours of footage, sought out mentors both nationally and internationally, attended seminars and workshops, and slowly developed a system that actually worked. Not just for Kobe — but for the dogs I started helping after him.

Kobe is no longer with us. He passed in 2024 after many years as my helper dog — years of calm walks, genuine connection, and a life that looked nothing like those early days. He's the reason I do this work, and he's the reason I know it's possible for your dog too.

"Relationship comes first. Everything else follows."

What our clients say

5.0 on Google

"I can't recommend Tyler and Coastal Canine Connection enough! My 50kg Dane Mastiff had developed on-lead aggression to the point I couldn't walk him anymore — every outing ended in tears. I felt completely stuck and didn't know what to do. After just three sessions with Tyler (and consistent at-home work that was broken down into clear, manageable steps), we can now enjoy calm, successful walks again. The change has been incredible, and to say I'm stoked is an understatement. Thank you, Tyler!"

Ashlie Millican

"Tyler and Bonnie provided thoughtful, well-structured training for Paxen. They were accommodating and genuine, and their advice was practical and easy to apply. Their calm, supportive approach helped build Paxen's confidence, improve his behaviour, and gave me greater confidence as an owner. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them — five stars."

Tania Shackleton

with Paxen

"After months of struggling to find competent trainers on the coast to help me understand my extremely reactive corgi, I was finally directed Tyler's way. And since that moment, I have had the most incredible improvements with Sprout. Tyler helped me understand the cause for the reactivity, the steps to reduce it, and how to improve Sprout's behaviour in all areas. We have had 2 sessions so far and I can't wait to keep working with Coastal Canine Connection."

Cassandra Mensforth

with Sprout

"Coastal Canine Connection is honestly next level. Tyler and Bonnie are absolute legends and you can tell they genuinely care about every single dog that walks through the gate. My pup Chewy is obsessed — full tail wag mode the second we pull up. We've also started a training program with Tyler and wow — the bloke seriously knows his stuff. Super knowledgeable, calm, and explains things in a way that actually makes sense. You can see the results already and it's given us so much confidence."

What our daycare families say

"We were recommended to Doggie Day Care at Coastal Canine Connection, and honestly, it's been the best decision. Our puppy started going from 5 months old and it quickly became his favourite day of the week. Tyler and Bonnie are so caring, thoughtful, and attentive, and you can tell the dogs feel safe and loved with them. Highly recommend their day care service."

Samantha Riley

"Winnie started daycare as a very shy Groodle, and the transformation over the past 12 months has been amazing. She now loves her daycare days and walks in with so much excitement and confidence. Bonnie and Tyler have been incredible with her — patient, caring, and genuinely invested in her wellbeing. Thanks to them, Winnie is so much more confident and happy. We couldn't recommend this daycare more highly."
